NEW LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR HOMELESS IN NH

Granite Leaders program begins in November 2013

MANCHESTER, NH – The NH Coalition to End Homelessness (NHCEH) is launching a new program called “Granite Leaders.”  Funded by the New Hampshire Housing and Finance Authority, Granite Leaders builds leadership skills within the homeless and formerly homeless community, increasing their capacity to take on influential roles on issues pertinent to their lives.  The program will start in November 2013.

Through a free six-month educational and experiential program, participants of Granite Leaders learn specific skills and interact with widely recognized leaders on the local, statewide and national levels.  Upon completion of the program, graduates become part of a network of skilled leaders focused on improving the quality of life in communities across New Hampshire.

“Many people who have experienced  homelessness want to engage in civic activities that can help others who are in similar situations,” said Cathy Kuhn, PhD, Director of the NH Coalition to End Homelessness.  “Granite Leaders will provide participants with knowledge and skills that they can use to become effective leaders on behalf of those most vulnerable in their communities.”

Granite Leaders is currently accepting 15 participants into the program.  Participants can apply online by visiting www.nhceh.org/GraniteLeaders.  The application deadline is October 9, 2013.

Granite Leaders also offers a number of opportunities to support the program, including becoming a sponsor.  For more information on sponsorships, visit www.nhceh.org/GraniteLeaders/Sponsor.

The NH Coalition to End Homelessness is a nonprofit organization with the purpose of eliminating the causes of homelessness through research, education, and advocacy.  For more information about the NHCEH and Granite Leaders Program, visit www.nhceh.org or call 603-641-9441.
