MILFORD STORM CENTER: Snow Winding Down, Subzero Temperatures Expected

Friday, Jan. 3 - 

• 8:30 a.m.: Here's the latest National Weather Service forecast for Milford for today: "Areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow showers before 11am, then a slight chance of snow showers between 11am and noon, then areas of blowing snow after noon. Cloudy early, then gradual clearing and cold, with a high near 8. Wind chill values as low as -14. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible."
• 7:55 a.m.: The snow is expected to wind down sometime this morning. Visibility remains quite bad on Southern New Hampshire roads, so drive carefully.

Thursday, Jan. 2 -

• 3:05 p.m.: School has been canceled in Milford on Friday.
• 1:50 p.m.: The New Hampshire Department of Transportation just issued a statement reminding motorists to slow down and limit travel for the duration of the current storm. Because of the extremely cold temperatures, anti-icing chemicals have limited effectiveness and road conditions may be worse than they appear, according to NHDOT Director of Operations Bill Janelle. Advisory speed limits have been reduced to 45 mph on all interstates and turnpikes. For additional winter driving tips, click here.
• 12:40 p.m.: A snow removal parking ban has been declared for Jan. 3, from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Click here for more details.
• 12:20 p.m.: Gov.  Hassan has now issued a full statement about the storm, urging residents to be cautious. Unlike Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick, however, she is not releasing state employees early.
• 10:30 a.m.: Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is now starting to report some flight delays and cancellations. Logan Airport in Boston is already saying it will cease operations at 8 p.m. and resume tomorrow afternoon.
• 9:57 a.m.: Gov. Maggie Hassan just sent out the following Tweet urging New Hampshire residents to drive safely throughout the duration of the storm: "Heavy snow will continue throughout the day & night, encouraging Granite Staters to exercise caution on the roads and drive safely"

The first storm of 2014 is underway as the initial flakes began falling after midnight on Thursday. During the day on Thursday there will be some accumulation, though much of the snow will come Thursday night into Friday before the storm ends by Friday afternoon.
