GENERAL NEWS

Ø  The Library Trustees will meet Tuesday, December 17 at 7 p.m.

Ø  The Library will close early on December 24 & 31 at 3 p.m.

Ø  The Library will be closed on December 25 for the Christmas Holiday.

Ø  Accepting Wreath Donations from Wednesday, December 4 through Friday, December 6 for our 3rd Annual “Wreaths Around the Wadleigh” Silent Auction. Donate a wreath of any size decorated in any theme you chose. They can be of any medium or material. The wreath and all items placed on the wreath are part of the donation and will be auctioned off by The Friends of the Library as a fundraiser to support library programming.

 

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Wreaths Around the Wadleigh
The Friends of the Wadleigh Library present the Third Annual Wreaths Around the Wadleigh event this December.

 

Help support the Wadleigh Library and participate in a fun holiday event.

 

Donated wreaths will be on display and available for bids during library hours; Saturday, December 7 through Saturday, December 14. Winners will be notified December 15.

 

Let's make this a great community event!

Introduction to Linked In

10 – 12 noon

Linked In can be a valuable service for employers and employees as well as people seeking employment. This is the first of a four-part series and covers the basic features of Linked In and what to expect.

 

Friday, December 6

Social Networking

10 – 12 noon

This class covers the basics of Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, and Craigslist and the focus of each network. We also cover simple practices to protect your online image. Finally we cover how hackers use deception and tricks to gain access to your private information.

 

This class is free and all are welcome.

Managing Your Linked In Profile

10 – 12 noon

Improve your personal image and have it serve as a comprehensive resume. Add employment and educational history, awards, self-employment information, and skills to create a positive image for others to see.

Find Your Way Around the Health Care Law

7 – 8:30 p.m.

Starting January 1, the Affordable Care Act requires just about everyone to have health insurance. Whether you have health insurance or no coverage at all, find out what the health care law means for you and your family. Join us to learn more about the law’s benefits and protections and new coverage options. AARP of New Hampshire will present this informative program, and Application Assisters from Harbor Homes will be available for questions.

30-Second Commercial

10 – 12 noon

Also known as the “Elevator Speech”. Set up, practice, and use a pithy introduction that will interest employers and gain clients. This class is for people who would like to improve their introductions or people looking for employment.

 

This class is free and all are welcome. Learn how to present your best side to prospective employers.

Learn how to make personal contacts. Improve your skills by learning from others. Gain endorsements for the skills that you have and help others with their skill sets. Learn how to sign in to groups that represent your profession and how to manage them for the most productivity.

Learn ways to incorporate Linked In with your business, employment and professional life to gain the maximum use of this social network. We will also cover updates and site upgrades and how they might affect your account.

Are you looking for other yarn addicts? Do your Monday nights seem dull? Look no further! Don't have a project in mind? Can't seem to finish that scarf for Grandma? Or are you a complete beginner with an itch to stitch? Bring your project in & be inspired; if you're a beginner, your local craft store can help you select a project & requisite supplies. There will be no formal instruction but 'knitwits' are a helpful bunch and love to indoctrinate the uninitiated into the cult of knitting.

Spanish Conversation Group

7 – 8 p.m.

Do you want to practice your Spanish? Here’s your opportunity with this new, drop-in group that is just starting up. Join Sandra Pleisch to brush up on your Spanish language skills or have a chance to use your Spanish. If you have an interest in using the Spanish language, you're just the person we're looking for, so come on down!

Two hours of gaming with the Wii, PS2, and other wireless (board) games!  You are welcome to bring your DS, PSP, controllers or any games (rated T or lower) to play. Snacks provided.

PAWS to Read

10:30 a.m. – 12 noon
Read to a DOG? Not just any dog....

 

Certified Therapy Pets are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers and children having difficulties with reading to become more confident in their ability to read. The use of Therapy Pets in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes has been shown to decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote relaxation; the same premise applies to children with reading difficulties.

 

For those children who cannot yet read on their own, parents & caregivers are invited to read with their children. In order to guarantee your spot, you must register for each session.

 

Registered children should arrive during the advertised time span and will read to the dog of their choice for approximately 15-20 mins.

A storytime for ages 18 months to 24 months.  We'll read together, sing, dance and have lots of fun from 10-10:30am, then it's "stay & play" from 10:30-11:00am.

A storytime for ages 2 to 3 1/2 years old.  We'll listen to stories, sing, dance and have lots of fun.
