SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Wednesday, September 18
Hiking the Appalachian Trail
6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Roger Tetreault of Boxborough took the phrase “take a hike” literally when he decided to walk the 2,176.4 miles of the Appalachian Trail. A carpenter by trade, Roger is a backpacking and hiking enthusiast. After ten years of hiking the local terrain he decided early in 2008 to hike the Appalachian Trail.  It took Roger 5.5 months to hike from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. He hiked from March 25 until September 7. During the hike he encountered temperatures ranging from 18º to 100º plus snow, lots of rain, deer, wild horses, wild long horned cattle, wild boar, mountain lions, bears, snakes, and many wonderful fellow thru-hikers.

Roger "Hammer" Tetreault will share his 'visual hike' with a multi-media presentation for hikers and non-hikers alike.

She is a Certified Professional Organizer ® and coach, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and a Level I Certificate of Study in Chronic Disorganization. Tuesday, October 8
The Founding Fathers: What Were They Thinking
7 – 8:30 p.m.
In 1787 delegates gathered in Philadelphia to address a wide variety of crises facing the young United States of America and produced a charter for a new government. In modern times, competing political and legal claims are frequently based on what those delegates intended. Mythology about the founders and their work at the 1787 Convention has obscured both fact and legitimate analysis of the events leading to the agreement called the Constitution. Richard Hesse explores the cast of characters called "founders," the problems they faced, and the solutions they fashioned.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council.

Thursday, October 10

Certified Therapy Pets are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers and children having difficulties with reading to become more confident in their ability to read. The use of Therapy Pets in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes has been shown to decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote relaxation; the same premise applies to children with reading difficulties.

For those children who cannot yet read on their own, parents & caregivers are invited to read with their children. In order to guarantee your spot, you must register for each session.

Registered children should arrive during the advertised time span and will read to the dog of their choice for approximately 15-20 mins.
